Mission Log

Stardate: -309958.4
My 5 year mission to watch every Star Trek ever made has begun. I am working in "Star Trek" chronological order and have started with the Enterprise series. I will then rewatch the original series with Captain Kirk, even though I have seen all of these episodes to the point of memorization, then the Star Trek cartoon and that is when it gets a bit tricky, but luckily I have a true Trekkie navigator who will no doubt chart my course in the comment section below.
The Enterprise series looks promising. I always enjoyed Scott Bakula's acting on Quantum Leap. The intro theme song doesn't seem to fit with what I was expecting, but I do enjoy seeing the history of flight go by: The Wright's Flier, Lindbergh landing in Paris, Alan Shephard getting ready to blast off and the Space Shuttle Enterprise that I watched in its test flights back in the 70's.  As a Private Pilot myself (and yes obsessed with all things flying whether they are real or science fiction), I was really impressed with all of these scenes. OK, now to officially launch this mission. Description of Episode 1 to follow:

  3. Here's a little fun trivia! Up until Enterprise, several crewmen die in almost every episode of Star Trek. While watching Enterprise, note how many members of the crew die in every episode (none for a very long time, which is unrealistic), and then note how many die in the later shows (practically more than the ship can hold after a few episodes).

  4. Great idea! I will add a counter to the blog here in a minute. Have I missed any deaths so far among the crew or have the crew killed anyone yet. I know they've done a lot of shooting so far, but maybe that was all on stun. They did abandon the space slug...on a "suitable" planet, but I will assume it lived.

  5. You shouldn't have missed any deaths and I believe they haven't killed anyone yet, just stunned. Plus, I do believe the space slug lived as a sort of comparison to Hoshi. By the way, thanks to a heated discussion with my dad, I mean Lieutenant Bennett, I suggest altering our course by placing the 2009 Star Trek movie after Star Trek: Nemesis. According to the Lieutenant, the story took place in an alternate reality and would be confusing to the current timeline if watched before the Original Series.

  6. Also, I love the "Red Shirt" Memoriam addition to the blog!

  7. Thanks for keeping track of the deaths I didn't miss! Nice insight on the slug as a symbol of Hoshi!! That is great, feel free to add any insight that I miss! I am really happy that I have inspired some heated discussions thanks to the blog. And as far as our navigation goes, I just continue right now on Enterprise until you tell me to change my heading right? Glad you like the memoriam! So far so good, no deaths! I know from having the original series memorized that it will fill quite quickly then.

  8. LMK know how or if you like the interstellar romance competition between captains. Wasn't sure about it, but I thought it might be fun and something else for me to count during my 708 more episodes!!
